Jonny Oates, CEO of United Against Malnutrition& Hunger (UAMH) said:
“The Nutrition for Growth summit in Paris has highlighted the fundamental importance of nutrition in global development.
“While it is disappointing that the UK Government did not make a financial commitment at the Paris Summit. We hope they will match their strong words of support for nutrition interventions with a pledge after the spending review.
We call specifically for a £ 50 million commitment to the Child Nutrition Fund, an innovative initiative pioneered by the UK in partnership with UNICEF and philanthropists such as the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and the Gates Foundation. The CNF is a mechanism of true partnership which can maximise the impact of UK funding by leveraging in philanthropic capital and domestic resources from partner countries.
“Nutrition is key to the development of individuals, countries, and geopolitical security. Without it, prosperity, equality, climate resilience, and peace remain beyond reach.
The UK’s proud legacy of leadership against malnutrition should be maintained because it is both moral and in the UK’s self-interest.”
