Kate Dearden

Kate is Head of Research, Policy and External Relations at Community trade union and leads on the union's political work.

She first engaged in the struggle for global health justice at school where she developed a virtual pack for mothers and babies in Nigeria, DR Congo, and Sudan in partnership with the charity CAFOD which sought to reduce infant and maternal mortality in childbirth.

She studied International Relations at Edinburgh University and went on to work on election campaigns across the country for the Labour party.

Kate is also Trustee and Company Secretary of Unions21, and a trade union representative on Labour’s National Policy Forum as a member of the Better Jobs and Better Work Commission. She is passionate about women’s rights and representation and sits as a national executive committee member on Labour Women’s Network.
